What types of volunteer opportunities are available?
We offer a variety of roles, including direct client support, crisis hotline assistance, outreach and awareness activities, event planning, tabling at events, administrative support, and more. Whether you want to work behind the scenes or directly with clients, we have options to fit your interests. You can view our current event-based volunteer slots here.
Do I need specific qualifications to volunteer?
For some roles, such as crisis hotline support or direct client assistance, we may require specific training, which we provide. Other roles, such as outreach and administrative support, do not require prior experience.
How much time is required to volunteer?
We offer flexible volunteer opportunities, ranging from one-time events to ongoing commitments. We will work with your schedule to find an opportunity that suits your availability!
What kind of training will I receive?
All volunteers who interact with clients undergo comprehensive training on domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and cultural competency. Our goal is to ensure you feel prepared and supported in your role. We will also provide you with information about the organization's programs so you can feel comfortable telling the community about AshaKiran.
Is there a minimum age requirement to volunteer?
Volunteers who interact directly with clients must be at least 19 years old. For other roles, such as event support or outreach, we may allow younger volunteers with parental permission or through school-based programs.
Can I volunteer if I don’t have experience in crisis services?
Absolutely! Many of our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds. We provide all necessary training and support. Passion for helping others and a willingness to learn are the most important qualifications.
Will volunteering with the agency be emotionally challenging?
Working with survivors of trauma can sometimes be emotionally challenging, but it is also incredibly rewarding. We provide ongoing support, including supervision and self-care resources, to help volunteers manage the emotional demands of the work.
How do I apply to become a volunteer?
You can fill out our online volunteer interest form here, or contact us directly at coc@ashakiranonline.org for more information. Once we receive your form, we’ll reach out to discuss next steps. You will also be required to fill out some paperwork and a background check to ensure you, our organization, and clients are all safe and respected.
Can groups or organizations volunteer together?
Yes, we welcome volunteer groups for specific projects and events! Please contact us to discuss group opportunities and how your team can get involved.
Will volunteering with the agency help me develop skills for a future career?
Volunteering with us offers valuable skills in communication, crisis management, advocacy, and community outreach, which are transferable to many career paths, especially in social services, counseling, nonprofit work, and advocacy.

Crisis Hotline ☏
Answer the crisis calls, completing pre-intakes
when necessary, and providing information and referrals to callers in a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed way.
Outreach Admin 🗒
Assist the AshaKiran outreach team with projects, such as: researching upcoming events, finding nonprofits to collaborate and partner with, and data input
