Our Mission
AshaKiran, meaning “A Ray of Hope,” is more than just a name. It represents our commitment to illuminating the path forward for individuals in crisis. We are free, confidential, and unwavering in our support. We want to offer hope to those who may feel they have none.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, our mission states we are to “address crises such as domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in the foreign-born and underserved communities, by offering culturally sensitive services and providing education to enhance understanding of cultural barriers.”
Our Vision
AshaKiran aspires to be "A Ray of Hope" by bridging the gap between service providers and culturally diverse communities.
The AshaKiran Story
Imagine finding yourself in a new country, unfamiliar with the language, customs, or systems in place. Now imagine facing a crisis—a moment of deep vulnerability and need—and feeling isolated, unable to ask for help or even find the right words to explain your situation. For many individuals in multicultural communities, this is not just a possibility. It is their reality.
This is where AshaKiran steps in.
In 2006, AshaKiran was born from a pressing need in our community. It is a need that mainstream agencies often struggle to address adequately. Traditional systems of support, while well-intentioned, may not fully grasp the unique challenges faced by individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Recognizing this gap, AshaKiran was established by Bhavani Kakani. AshaKiran is now a lifeline, a bridge, and a beacon of hope for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, who often go unheard and unseen.
We understand that crisis doesn’t look the same for everyone. For someone from a multicultural background, additional barriers such as language, cultural norms, or unfamiliarity with available resources can compound the challenges they face. AshaKiran was created to dismantle these barriers and provide support that is not only effective but also empathetic and culturally attuned.
